Getting There – Paris with Scott

Getting There

Getting there – miles, great way

For my parents, I had a absolutely fabulous organizer who got the return tickets on the QM2 and they got free upgrade to business class on the way over.

Getting to Paris is really easy – pull up any airline or travel site and you can find so many flights going to Paris you can’t shake a stick at them all.  Paris is one of the top destinations in the world – try your frequent flier miles less than 270 days out and you will find out.

Getting there the best way for you is what takes the planning.

The high season for travel to Paris may seem like all the time, but from about Easter through _______ is the high season.  If you need to look for a more reasonable airfare, avoid the high season.

First, determine the dates you want to go, when you can go and how long you will spend in Paris.

Its easy to get to Paris, sometimes it may be difficult to do it the best way for you.

If you have points or do a special with QM2 for the return trip, then you can get business class on the way over.  If you get this, then you should probably get to the nearest place to you that has a direct flight to Paris.  For example, you live in South Mississippi, get to Atlanta and

Take a short flight to the big city, then maximize your time in business class.  Don’t for example take a flight to New York and then over, because you will have fewer hours in the business class (ie. more comfortable) flight.

Or, you may be like me and are 6’5” and I just want to get there in the shortest time and the shortest time on the planes.  I like to fly to New York on Jet Blue (more leg room) and then fly from New York to Paris and squish up and suck it up and just get there.  It isn’t comfortable, but its way less expensive.

L’avion is an airline not many people know about it.  It leaves from Newark and flies into Orly.  You can even get there same day.  Its reasonably priced – especially considering to use miles or points to upgrade, you first have to buy a regular priced seat.  You should check it out because its good.

Peace of Mind – travel insurance

In my mind, the best way is to fly to New York, spend the night, then take the QM2 crossing over to Le Havre and then down to Paris.  .  Every airline

Get some euros before you go.  Yes, the banks have ATMs all over, and that is really the only way I get money when I am over there.  But, get there with a few Euros so if you want to take the RER into town, you are prepared, if you want to take a taxi, you are prepared, if you need a bottle of water when you get there, you can buy one.  If you need a tip for the doorman, you are prepared.

Leaving France – or getting there

By Air

Eat or go by the boulangerie before you leave, once you go past the security there is no more good food.

They are serious about security in Paris, don’t be alarmed to see police with machine guns and dogs all over.  They are not always there, but don’t be surprised.  It seems they take security a lot more seriously over there.
